The Kneeling Archer Early Chinese civilization can come alive in your home with an official terracotta replica of The Kneeling Archer. Modeled after the life-size statues discovered by archeologists in Pit 2, the figure is kneeling on the right knee, with the left knee raised… ready to shoot his bow and defend First Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di. The original terracotta sculptures – including 332 archers (160 of them kneeling) – were buried with the First Emperor to protect him in the afterlife. These reproductions – with heads held firmly and eyes looking directly ahead – remind us that archers were known for their concentration, discipline and precision.
